Cartoon resources:

Our cartoon resources cover lots of parenting issues including breastfeeding, speech development and sleep issues. They are currently being updated. A range of other publications are also available, please contact us for an information pack.

Our cartoon resources provide a sound evidence base of information for Community Mothers and Breastfeeding Supporters to share with parents. They cover

  • Different stages of child development
  • Identified local health and parenting issues
  • Everyday parenting issues that are often challenging and that both mothers and fathers can easily identify with
  • Culturally relevant parenting activities suitable for different ethnic groups that convey familiar parenting situations

Cartoons are:

  • An ideal focus for information sharing and informal discussion.
  • Useful as a way of opening up a discussion about an awkward or sensitive topic in a non-threatening way
  • Used as a means of encouraging informal discussion and debate around specific parenting issues and approaches
  • Invaluable for parents with literacy problems since the messages can easily be remembered after the visit as a result of a visual reminder of the issues that have been discussed.
  • A resource that provides alternatives and suggestions i.e. Community Mothers are not encouraged to use the cartoons in a prescriptive way
  • Useful for building up the parents’ self esteem and confidence because they highlight the positive and important role being carried out by parents as part of their normal day to day work
  • Selected carefully prior to a home visit so as to suit the particular needs, interests and circumstances of individual families.
